In January 2024, 89,554 tech employees were laid off, followed by 40,021 in February, as reported by TechCrunch. Unfortunately, I was among those laid off. As a design mentor and New York ambassador at ADPList, a global community of Mentors and Learners, I recognized the importance of hosting an event on navigating the job search process and coping with rejection during these challenging times.
Job Hunting Mindfully
From my personal experience, job hunting has never been this challenging, and coping with repeated rejections has been particularly difficult. It can be a toxic experience, so it's crucial to be mindful during these tough times. Being mindful of the content we share is essential. Improving the visuals in a portfolio and selecting only two to three compelling case studies are enough.
When to Connect and Disconnect
It's best to practice mindfulness when connecting with others who share your passion or interests. While social media can be valuable, it's important to use it in moderation and disconnect. LinkedIn is particularly crucial during job hunting, but overuse can lead to burnout and lower self-esteem. Remember, it's okay to take a break and start afresh!
